December 15 - January 14, 2011
Curated by Ania Gilmore Book Art: The World of the Limitless is an exhibition
featuring the work of New England Artists who express their ideas in a book
form. The book is no longer just a container that holds information, but it is
transformed to convey a unique relationship between form and content. Each
artist uses different materials, techniques and approaches, sometimes to the
point where the book is no longer readable. These artists are experimenting with
various senses, materials, structure and size, using tools such as: collage, photography,
nature, handmade paper, found objects, typography, drawing, painting
and inviting the viewer to engage in the exploration of form and content with
interpretations as varied as the artists who created them.

Solo Exhibit of Sumi-e painting | | EIBAB European International BookArt Biennale First Edition Muzeul de ARTA Satu-Mare Romania Piata Libertatii Nr. 21 440014 Satu- Mare, Romania
The European International Book Art Biennale has been promoting and encouraging
any unconventional attitudes about books. It deals with book-objects,
book-installations, one-offs, author's books, artist's books, writer's books,
experimental and limited editions, fine press books, etc. The core of the project
is an exhibition composed of works selected in a competition and made by the
artists invited by the organisers. Exhibition inspired by Dorothea Fleiss quote:
"We live in the 21st century, the century of technology, of computers and mass
media, all of which are separating us and our children from the written word. In
a few years, if this direction of our civilized world continues, books will disappear."
Curator Dorothea Fleiss, assistent Edward Herczeg.

| | A Book About Death and MOMA, New York Emily Harvey Foundation Gallery 537 Broadway, New York, NY 10012
September 10-22, 2009
A Book About Death takes its inspiration from the late, underground American
artist Ray Johnson (1927 - 1995). Ray Johnson’s unbound “book” of the same
title was mailed to his New York Correspondence School “students” and included
pages in his idiosyncratic style that were funny, sad and ironic “one-page
essays” on death. With the A Book About Death project, artists are invited to
plunge into subject in creating their own pages that score the dramatic final
dance of death. A Book About Death with 486 artists work was shown at The
Emily Harvey Gallery in New York city on September 10, 2009. The works were
installed on the wall while the remaining copies sat in rows of boxes on the
gallery floor for visitors to take and create their own book about death. All of the
postcards were free. The show has since been recreated by different participating
artists who collected entire sets of the original exhibition. These have been
exhibited at The Queen’s Museum of Art, Queens, NY, Otis College of Art and
Design, Los Angeles; River Mill Art Gallery, Westfield, NJ, USA; South End Open
Studios, Boston; The Sexta Literary Arts Festival, Tijuana, Mexico; and Ripe Art
Gallery, Greenlawn, NY, among other places. A Book About Death has also been
acquired for the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York,
as well as for collections in the MUBE (Museu Brasileiro da Escultura), São Paulo,
Brazil, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Balch Research Library, Los
Angeles.
My postcard [342], contained an image of one of my books a Library of Alexandria, 2009. | | Collage: Process and Product Southboro Arts Center 21 Highland Str., Southborough, MA 01772
March 13 - April 10, 2009
The show explores the rich and unique art medium of collage, which includes
pasted papers, altered books, mixed media, assemblage and much more. The
title of the exhibit refers to two diverse ways of making art. One way to approach
creating a new piece of art is to immerse oneself in the artistic process, whatever
that may be: painting, pasting, assembling, cutting or drawing. Works
created this way emerge from the use of materials and the artist does not start
with a preconceived notion of what the end product will be. Participating in the
show are the following artists: Betsy Beninger, Caroline Bowden, Leah Fin, Ania
Gilmore Kathleen Hendrick, Joan Loewenberg, Amy Rubin, Nyia Yanatos, Ted
Todd, Amelia Todd, Donna Kaplan, Michele Kweder, Joan Halperin, Joan Rubin-
Deutsch.
